On Monday night, the Baltimore Ravens lost the preseason game against the Washington Commanders with a score of 29-28, ending their impressive 24-game preseason winning streak, which was a record in the NFL.
Kicker Joey Slye successfully made a 49-yard field goal with only 14 seconds left on the clock. As a result, the Commanders were able to intercept Anthony Brown’s Hail Mary attempt, who was playing as a backup for the Ravens, and break the longest preseason winning streak in the history of the league. The Commanders were thrilled with the victory, and Slye even held up an “L” after making the winning kick.
The Baltimore Ravens have been very successful in their preseason games over the past few years. Their last preseason loss occurred on September 3, 2015, against the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome, which no longer exists. Since then, they have gone undefeated in the preseason, going 4-0 in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

In 2020, there was no preseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Ravens went 3-0 in 2020, 2021, and 2022 preseasons and started off the 2023 preseason with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles before losing to the Commanders on Monday.
During the game against the Commanders, Josh Johnson started at quarterback for the Ravens and threw a touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers in the first quarter. Joey Slye kicked his first field goal late in the first quarter, and the Commanders capitalized on a Johnson interception when Washington starter Sam Howell connected with Antonio Gibson for a 9-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
Johnson responded with a 33-yard pass to Charlie Kolar, and a Washington pass interference penalty set up a 7-yard touchdown pass to Tylan Wallace. Washington’s Howell then led his team down the field in a 10-play, 79-yard drive that took 1:22 off the clock and ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Dyami Brown.
In the third quarter, Brown entered the game and scored a 17-yard touchdown by connecting with Travis Vokolek. This put Baltimore ahead at 21-17. A field goal by Slye was answered by Brown and Vokolek, who scored again from eight yards out to increase the lead.
Late in the fourth quarter, Washington’s third-string quarterback, Jake Fromm, led a drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jarrett Patterson. This brought the score to 28-26, but the 2-point conversion attempt failed, allowing Baltimore to run out the clock. However, Washington made a third-down stop, forced a punt, and Fromm led the Commanders back into field goal range for Slye’s game-winning kick.
Brown ended the game with six completions out of 10 attempts for 40 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Johnson completed 10 out of 12 passes for 145 yards, two scores, and one pick. Lamar Jackson, the starter, did not play. The Ravens will conclude their preseason on August 26th, playing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
