The Buccaneers signed a former Award Winner kicker Rodrigo Blankenship.
According to Spotrac, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made their roster strong as the team signed former Lou Groza Award winner Rodrigo Blankenship to a one-year, $940,000 contract. The news come to the surface after the team released longtime kicker Ryan Succop earlier this offseason. Ryan Succop serves the Buccaneers’ last three years as the kicker, including the team’s Super Bowl-winning in the 2020 season.
To become the Buccaneers’ kicker for the 2023 season, Rodrigo Blankenship will compete against Chase McLaughlin. It would be a surprise if the team opted to retain both players on the final list, that means one of the two kickers will likely be released prior to the week 1 game.

The new kicker, Rodrigo Blankenship played college football at Georgia, where he has an impressive career behind. He kicked the longest field goal in Rose Bowl history. Blankenship converted 82.5% of his college field goals and did not miss an extra point attempt with the Bulldogs.
Rodrigo Blankenship started his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in the 2020 season. On June 15, 2023, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The former Bulldogs kicker has connected on 47-of-53 field goal attempts 83.9% and 93.1% of extra-point tries during his NFL career. He has been consistent from the 40 to 49-yard range nailing 15-of-19 kicks. The Veteran notched a 53-yard field goal with the Colts during his rookie season which remains the longest kick of his career.

During Blankenship’s college career, he won the Lou Groza Award in 2019 same time he notched the most field goals in the SEC. He still holds the record for the longest kick in the Rose Bowl with a 55-yard field goal against Baker Mayfield’s Oklahoma squad in 2018.
