Saquon Barkley rejected huge contract offers
The New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley is still dealing with his contract offers. This has been a big problem for him this season. It seems he is not interested in what he is getting.
As per reports, Saquon Barkley has rejected a lot of offers. He is not happy with the contract offers and seems the deal is not as much as he expected.
He enters the season with the New York Giants’ offer of $10 million in 2023. Despite several attempts, the two sides have so far been unable to reach an agreement. After many tries, they have failed to reach a statement.
As per some reports, Saquon Barkley wants a similar salary to the San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey. The 49ers have a contract deal of $16 million per season with McCaffery. This is the highest salary for any running back in the NFL.
According to Bob Brookover of NJ Advance Media, Barkley also declined a significant offer of a franchise. The Giants offered Barkley a $12.5 million deal midway through last season, and he declined.
According to sources, he was offered $12.5 million per season in the bye week, then later raised that number to $13 million with a chance to receive another $14 million in incentives immediately after the season.
But Saquon Barkley rejected both deals.
After the Giants used the franchise tag on him, Saquon was barred from testing the free-agent market.
It sounds improbable, but if the New York Giants are willing to pay him that $16 million, he will become the highest-paid running back in the league along with Christian McCaffrey, who has an AAV of $16.02 million.
Barkley has until July 17 to work out a deal with the franchise or he will be stuck playing for a franchise tender of $10.1 million, which is $3.9 million less than before he was offered.
